Empowerment is the Through Line

Interludes, developing a practice, and philosophies on growth

In Chinese philosophy, there’s a teaching that all living things move through cycles of change, shaped by the opposing forces of yin and yang, and that every ending is a essentially a transition. This thought articulates the essence of why I’m drawn to interludes.

Sonically, I always seem to gravitate towards them in an album — not all, but the ones with tempo — and I think it’s because they feel like a “to be continued”, as if punctuated by an ellipses. In music, interludes bridge two parts of a composition which I’ve always found to be somewhat poetic and reflective of the way we navigate creative and personal growth.

What I love most about an interlude is that it puts the power back with the listener, offering space to make meaning. It’s in this liminal space where things feel the most unknown, and I find that these moments of pause and transition are sacred for self-discovery. It’s why I see periods of interlude as a time to honor with ritual and practice for expansion and growth.

Developing a practice

When I first created Interlude in 2023, I was navigating a period of deep transition as it related to my creativity and how I wanted to express that outwardly to the world. Interlude served as a container to house all my creative explorations related to dance, design & the arts, and was essentially an outlet to connect deeper to my creativity. While it will always be that in some way, Interlude is evolving alongside my vision/purpose, and my hope is that its reach will grow in ways that feel universal and resonant.

Through my own process of discovering & nurturing my creativity, I realized how important it was to develop a consistent practice around it.

Ritualizing the practice opened new pathways that seemed almost impossible at the start. The through line? Empowerment and confidence. I can’t express enough how much having a consistent practice became instrumental to my elevation. You’ll start to see when you honor the things that whisper at your soul, it ripples into other areas of your life.

What I’ve come to learn is that a daily commitment to self, especially in community, is an empowerment practice in and of itself.

Philosophies on growth

I’ve been obsessed with growth - in career, personal and creative pursuits. And one of the things I’ve come to learn is how much money and finances play a role in self development. Meaning, it provides a cushion and gives you flexibility in pursuing and experimenting with the things that move you. Because of this, I’ve made it a habit to read at least one book a year about money so I can constantly refine my relationship to wealth. We can’t deny the flexibility that money brings us and especially for women - the power to navigate independently and make the moves we need to make.

I finished The Psychology of Money last night after letting it collect dust on my nightstand for almost a year. One passage really stood out to me that I wanted to share:

In investing, you must identify the price of success - volatility and loss amid the long backdrop of growth - and be willing to pay it.

This made me reflect on the cycle of change in Chinese philosophy, where yin and yang are comparable to the volatility and harmony of growth. Success then, is a long-term investment shaped by a series of changes.

Thinking about this in the context of Interlude, I reflected on the women I’ve served over the past year. What began as a sensuality and movement practice evolved into something much deeper—a gathering of like-minded women navigating the shared cornerstones of our lives.

A recurring theme emerged: power, success, and growth. We kept returning to the question: How can we, as dynamic women in modern society, honor our growth while staying rooted in our power?

As I dug deeper into this, I started thinking about the tools and resources I’ve picked up along the way. A few truths stood out about personal growth:

  • Growth happens in community.

  • It thrives in environments that embrace the volatility of our creativity.

  • It requires us to tune into and honor our deepest desires.

Interlude 2.0 aims to address these truths.

I’m so excited to have you join me on this journey of creative exploration and entrepreneurship. If you’re anything like me—ambitious and creative—I hope you remember that honoring your soul starts with building a practice around it.

Devotion to that practice is the growth.
